So I didn't completely clear out the sink last night. And I need to put my laundry away. But still hopeful for 2010.
Down 5 lbs. Yay for me! Goals for this week include the following:
1. Drink the water. I get to about 20 oz short most of the time which is a huge approvement. Still haven't drank any soda!
2. Get myself to the gym more frequently. Still rather inconsistant with this one.
3. Eat less carbs & eat more protein. Keeping a food journal has been enlightening.
Until next time...

New Year New Me?
New year's resolutions can be tricky. You don't want to feel like a failure if you break them, but statistics show that most people do not keep them. With that in mind, here goes:
1. Ah yes - probably the number one resolution - to lose weight. I'm going a different route. Yes I need to lose weight, but my resolution is to live a more healthy lifestyle. What I am hoping is weight loss will be a side effect of that.
2. To have the kitchen sink empty when I go to bed.
3. To put all DVDs back in their cases when done watching them.
4. To blog more.
5. To take pictures more.
6. To keep track of what I read this year.
So that's it. 6 things. 1 year. Let's see how I do.

What I'm Reading....
One year Stephen King decided he was going to keep track of what he read one year and publish it. This was many years ago, and I believe his final number was close to one hundred...if I remember correctly. It also inspired me to keep track of what I was reading that year. I think I ended up in the 80s??
I'm very excited about the new Stephen King book coming out in Nov. My boss got an advance copy and it's huge! She said I could have it when she's done reading it, but I think the book will be out by the time she's done reading it.
The big news in the book world is the release of Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" -
again, starring Robert Langdon from "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons". I did get my copy at work and am now plodding thru it. Plodding....it's not that it's bad, it's just that it hasn't grabbed me yet. I am also re-reading the Laurel K Hamilton books - her Anita Blake series, not the Merry Gentry ones. I may also switch to the Jim Butchers ones, since he's got a new one coming out as well.

RIP Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett
June 25th. The day that Farrah and Michael Jackson died. And how did I find out? Via text updates...when I got home, the whole MJ scene was still going on...he had gone to the hospital, but there was no confirmation on if he had died or not. I turned to the twitterverse and the internet to see what I could find out. Lots and lots of tweets about Michael Jackson....as a matter of fact, the twitterverse collapsed and I got several error messages about how there were too many tweets going on at the same time!
Sad to say - neither one on my celebrity death list....who would have thought Michael Jackson dead @ 50? Obviously not me! I haven't lost a single celeb yet! My friend, @jamiemoon picked Ed McMahon, so she's winning, we think...don't have a master list of everyone who's playing.

Social Skills on the decline
There's a poll at work on the intranet asking where we get most of our news from. One of the answers was the internet, along with TV, radio, newspapers. Not surprisingly, the internet was the most chosen....I always choose the opposite there just to mess with em ;)
I was telling one of my FB friends that I get most of my pop culture news via Twitter now. I get updates from one of the local news stations sent to my phone as well. I like to pretend I'm not connected as my husband...but in reality, I am....This is also after I was telling one of my co-workers that texting is what's wrong with the youth of today. They text rather than call and actually speak to each other. I hear all about social media this and social media that, but is Facebook, texting, and twittering bringing down social skills in today's youth? Back in the old days, we actually called people, and before caller id, we didn't even know who was calling us.
I think of all the time that I spent on the phone talking with friends when I was a teenager and I did have visions of that for my daughter...instead, she texts. We ended up getting rid of her line in the house because she wasn't on it when she got her cell. We'll probably do the same when our 23 month old baby gets old enough to have a phone. That begs another question....how old were your children when they got their first cell phone? Our daughter was 9. She had a Migo, which only allows 4 programmed numbers on it, no other calls allowed. It also let us track her location. She had that for 2 yrs and then got a "real" phone. It's convenient in some ways and a pain in the ass in others. I love the fact I can get in touch with her pretty much whenever I need to...the pain? When she doesn't charge or have her phone with her.
So, back to the twitterverse - what do I use it for mostly? Getting updates about my fave celebrities, tv shows and other quirky characters. Seeing what my friends are up to. Trying to save television shows. Hearing about fixing the Hubble telescope from an astronaut. Following the trending topics and trying to make sense out of some of them.....like for instance now it's:

Fictional or Historical Character on Twitter?
Borders Media posed an interesting question via Twitter the other day. What fictional or historical character would you follow on Twitter and give a sample tweet?
I have a couple that I was thinking of:
Fun twitterers to follow? Just discovered Darth Vader, Terminator Salvation, and Secret Tweet. I also like TheUnusualsNYC cause it sends tweets out as the dispatch...very funny or I'm just highly amused. I keep waiting for Gossip Girl to jump on board with twitter, officially. I've found some random ones, but I think it would be cool for the show to tweet during the show the updates that get sent out to the characters, or is that just way too weird??

- Lestat - from Anne Rice's Vampire Series
- Sookie Stackhouse - from Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Series
- Jenks - from Kim Harrison's witch series

80s on XM Lost Song....
There is a general misconception in my family (which has been since dispelled) that I know music lyrics....I do not know how this got started, but Joe and Chelsey were convinced that I knew tons o lyrics until we got the game "Don't Forget the Lyrics". Yep, the one based on the TV show with Wayne Brady. I don't know if it's because it's a board game and there's no music to follow along or what? But I am awesomely bad at it....really and truly terrible. I know a lot of music that I like, but song lyrics?? No way. So, as usual, I lose the game big!
I was driving to work yesterday and listening to my satellite radio when the song "Whirly Girl" came on....can you forgot songs?? I hadn't heard this probably since it first came out, but I knew most of the words. Isn't funny how your memory works?
